We ask you to support Nehar Shalom, and with your support, to express faith in our
unique vision. The first shul in Jamaica Plain, Nehar Shalom offers a progressive voice for
social change that is rooted in a vibrant embrace of Jewish tradition. Our physical
presence in JP reflects our commitment to the revitalization of urban Jewish Boston. We
can be proud of what we have offered to the community:
Nehar Shalom is blossoming. With accomplishment comes the need for funds by which to
expand the expression of our vision. In the coming year, our plans and hopes include:
Nehar Shalom is at a crossroads. In order to pursue and sustain the vision of this unique
synagogue in JP, we need to undertake serious fundraising. As we grow, we face
significant expenses associated with programmatic and educational efforts, salary,
administrative needs and overhead. In the coming year, our goal is to raise $100,000.
There are two ways in which you can show your support. First, please consider becoming
a member of Nehar Shalom, or renew your membership if you joined Nehar Shalom last
year. We are proud of a unique membership policy that reflects our inclusive values. Our
suggested dues are 1% of household income. This allows each household to determine
an affordable amount, without need to justify. However, we encourage you to give more
than 1% if you are able to. Second, please consider Nehar Shalom as a recipient of your

As we embark on this first major fundraising campaign, we acknowledge the array of
important causes that we all support. We believe deeply that Nehar Shalom reflects in
one local address so many of the progressive Jewish values through which we strive to
create a better world.

- Shabbat and holiday services, and a place to mark life’s joys and sorrows
- A voice in JP’s interfaith and peace & justice communities
- A wide range of classes, programs and lectures
- Rabbinic counsel and support to members as well as to unaffiliated Jews
- Community Passover Seders open to all

- “The Family Learning Circle,” supported by a grant from CJP
- Subsidized Shabbat dinners as outreach and community building
- A beit midrash program of personalized learning opportunities
