unique vision. The first shul in Jamaica Plain, Nehar Shalom offers a progressive voice for
social change that is rooted in a vibrant embrace of Jewish tradition. Our physical
presence in JP reflects our commitment to the revitalization of urban Jewish Boston. We
can be proud of what we have offered to the community:
Nehar Shalom is blossoming. With accomplishment comes the need for funds by which to
maintain and expand the expression of our vision. Our community-building and outreach
programs include:
In order to pursue and sustain the vision of this unique synagogue in JP, we need your
help. As we grow, we face significant expenses associated with programmatic and
educational efforts, salary, administrative needs and overhead. Our funding comes
entirely through membership and contributions. Consistent with our mission as a
community synagogue, we do not sell High Holy Day tickets.
The most wonderful way to show your support is to become a member of Nehar Shalom,
or renew your membership if already a member. Membership creates a sense of
belonging and partnership in the diverse community that is Nehar Shalom. It also offers
tangible benefits, such as the opportunity to participate in classes free of charge, and
receive a weekly “Torah letter” – a reflection on the week’s Torah portion written by the
rabbi. We are proud of a unique membership policy that reflects our inclusive values. Our
suggested dues are 1% of household income. This allows each household to determine
an affordable amount, without need to justify. However, we encourage you to give more
than 1% if you are able to. Whether as a member or supportive friend, please consider
Nehar Shalom as a recipient of your charitable giving.
