Tisha b'Av, the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av, is a day of fasting and
mourning for the destruction of the Holy Temple and for numerous other
tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people and the world we share with all
people. The traditional birth date of the Messiah, it is also a day of hope that bids
us look beyond despair to repair.
Monday Evening, July 19th at 8:00
In subdued light we will begin ma’ariv, the evening service, and move from there
into a shared chanting of the Book of Eicha/Lamentations with its haunting
melody.
Tuesday Morning, July 20th at 7:00
The morning service will include the shared reading of kinot, religious poetry of
lament, and quiet singing.
Let us move together from despair to repair….
- “And it was evening…, Meditation and Ma’ariv”
Thursday, February 4th, and each first Thursday of the month, from 7:30 to 8:30
(but note exception: May 13th instead of May 6th)
In Jewish time, ever since Creation, a new day’s journey begins at night, and the
days find their rest in Shabbat. To help us on our journey through the days and
toward Shabbat, please join us for a Thursday evening meditation series. Guided
by Carl Woolf and Rabbi Victor Reinstein, we will engage together in sitting
meditation, chant, Torah study and traditional evening prayers. All are most
welcome.
- Hebrew Conversation Group
If you’d like to practice the Hebrew language skills you have (or used to have),
join us for informal Hebrew conversation gatherings at members’ homes. For
more information, contact Howard Katz at hckma@yahoo.com or Ruth Schechter
at ruthsch@earthlink.net.
